Your shoulders are constructed to move in miraculous ways. Throughout your day, without thinking about it, you move your shoulders in an impressive range of motions. In fact, the variety of such involved movement allows you to do nearly everything you do.

Your shoulder pain, then, may be due to work overload. Shoulder problems can occur if you repeatedly lift things, particularly overhead, or make other repetitive arm motions such as swinging a golf club or tennis racket. Such movements can put stress on the joints and inflame the adjacent tissue.

Nonetheless, in general, healthy shoulders can handle persistent motion without pain or other symptoms developing. After all, shoulders were constructed to pull double-duty! Pain in your shoulders is a signal that something is wrong and needs attention.

A common region for painful shoulder conditions is the rotator cuff. This is a group of muscles, ligaments, and tendons that permits lifting, pulling, and other rotational movements. It is not hard to see why the rotator cuff construction gives the most expanded range of motion of any joint. An active individual requires unrestricted motion to be optimally functional.

Your upper arm bone is connected to your shoulder blade by the muscles and tendons of the rotator cuff. The ball of your upper arm is held firmly in the shoulder socket by these muscles as well. Inflammation of the nerves causes painful, restricted movement. Moreover, the muscles of your shoulder not only become tight, but fatigued.

Shoulder impingement pain can vary from occasional and mild, such as a minor pinching with the lifting of the arms overhead, to total inability to use the shoulder. Occasional pain should still be addressed and not disregarded. And, most importantly, if you experience pain, never continue with an activity.

The problem will not correct itself without professional care. Immediate treatment is necessary for a good outcome. If disregarded, the problem could require corrective surgery and a long rehabilitation.

Chiropractic treatment can eliminate your pain without drugs by pinpointing the reason for your shoulder pain. Chiropractic manipulation restores proper shoulder joint mobility. Furthermore, your chiropractor knows what types of exercises you’ll require to eliminate your pain now and remain pain-free in the future.
