Religious concepts and the ambiance related to it always give peace to our mind and soul. Varieties of methods are used to meditate and concentrate in the thought of a super power. Tibetan Singing bowls are a similar kind of material used by mainly the Buddhists when they meditate. Singing bowl instigated from the Himalayan regions of Tibet, China, India, Bhutan and Nepal.

Singing bowl has become very popular and is wide spread in the trade routes. There is a thought that, Buddha, Padmasambhava, may have traveled from India to Tibet. There is no prove about the time when singing bowls came into practice, but it is believed that in India it came nearly 3000 years ago and while in Tibet 1000 year ago.

There are many beliefs regarding the use of singing bowls. Many believe that singing bowls were not initially utilized for religious practises but used as begging bowls and for food. During this time, the monasteries only used the singing bowl as a chalice. There are stories that travelling smiths used to make bowls from the materials they gathered during their journeys. While others believe, it was the creation of the monks. The singing bowls are in fact considered to be special type of bells. Instead of hanging inverted or attached to a handle, they are standing bells sitting on the bottom. Apart from this contradiction, these bowl were and still now used for mediation and is treated as a sacred thing.

Ancient Tibetan singing bowls were generally made from seven different metals including gold, silver, mercury, copper, tin and iron. Theories are also there that these bowls were made from the remains of meteorites. The sound produced by the singing bowl would differ upon how the different quantities of metals are mixed together. The metals were mixed to form an alloy, which was left to cool before being beaten up in the form of bowl. Evidences have been found that many bowls had been made from more than seven metals, which support the myth of travelling smiths. Because of all the precious ingredients in the alloy, ancient bowls have a much richer sound than the bowls made today.

Why the sound of today bowl is not so good? This is because it is made of pouring metals in a cast and the bowls made are very smooth. Though you can get many type of bowls such as hand hammered bowl but still ancient bowl are godlier. Playing a bowl is very simple and is easy to handle by anyone within few minutes.

For playing a Tibetan singing bowl you just need to circle a stick outside the bowl very slowly, a continuous circling will produce a steady rhythm, and the slight hum will rise. It has even a capacity of producing multi-phonic sounds along with multiple harmonic overtones. The fact of this sound produced is the use of an alloys as individual alloy mixture produce various sounds. The sound produced b the modern bowls are not of very high quality and only mono phonic sound but if they are made of cheap alloys if made of bronze then can produce multiple harmonic sounds.

Tibetan singing bowls are often required in meditation and it creates such an atmosphere that one can concentrate more deeply. Singing bowls are often used in yoga classes. Someone will play the bowl while others will concentrate on their yoga exercises. This brings such an environment, which is much more original and soothing. It is also believed that the charming sound of the singing bowl keeps away bad souls around you, freeing you from all troubles.

This is a belief of the Buddhist to use this bowl but you can even use it in the outside environment and even at your home. In the west, you will find the people knowing about it more and used by them as a sacred thing and even for yoga exercise. You can even use it to produce water memory effects. Tibetan singing Bowls can be used by you to gift other or even as one of the decorative items for your home.
