Gaining Relief Using Natural Eczema Remedies
The term eczema finds its origins from a word in the Greek language which essentially means “to boil”. Eczema is a non-contagious disease and it is the most widely occurring skin condition in the world. In the vast majority of cases, children aged five years old and younger are afflicted with this skin disorder. The type of eczema that affects children is known as Atopic Dermatitis. The good news is that there are a number of eczema remedies available that have proven helpful in alleviating the symptoms of this disease.
The symptoms and origins of eczema: Previous research has pointed to the fact that people with a family history which includes health conditions such as hay fever and asthma are particularly vulnerable to eczema. The condition is considered to be hereditary and is believed to be caused by a toxic build-up in the body. Eczema can also be aggravated by prolonged periods of stress, and by things such as smoking, commercially produced soaps, and other household chemicals. Some of the signs of eczema are itchy, dry and blistering skin, along with inflammation and flaking. The disease most often develops on the hands, face, arms, wrists, and at the back of the knees. It is not a contagious disorder.
Natural remedies: Placing oatmeal in one’s bath is known to be effective in decreasing the discomfort related to eczema. Some natural oatmeal can be put into a porous container and left to soak in the water. When bathing in this way it is recommended that commercial soaps not be used. After the bath, you can apply Aloe Vera gel to the affected spots to relieve the symptoms associated with this condition.
Peppermint oil is another naturally occurring substance known to alleviate the itching caused by eczema. A drop of diluted peppermint oil can be rubbed over the affected area to bring some relief. Tree oil is also popular with many people because of its capacity to reduce swelling and itching. It can be applied to the relevant areas of the body, or found as an active ingredient in a number of manufactured skin-care products. Patchouli is another example of an oil that acts as a natural antiseptic, decreasing the regularity of eczema breakouts.
Taking a bath in water in which oatmeal has been left to soak is effective in providing comfort from eczema symptoms. When employing this type of treatment, you should not use any chemical soaps tsince they can irritate the skin. A porous container of some sort can be used to place the oatmeal in so that it can be exposed to the water and eventually dissolve the grain. After bathing, additional relief can be achieved by gently applying Aloe Vera gel to the problem areas of the skin.
Things to be mindful of: Diet plays a key role when it comes to managing the effects of eczema. Foods that contain dairy, and or those that have nuts, eggs, or chemical preservatives in them should be avoided. Whenever possible, try to wear clothing that is made from 100% cotton since it is very gentle on the skin and will not cause any skin irritation. In addition, it is important that you do not use any harsh cleansers or chemical skincare formulas that contain synthetic fragrances and preservative since they can irritate and dry out your skin.
