Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Hair safeguarded prehistoric humans. A profuse growth performed as a blockade against crawling insects attempting to crawl into bodily crevices; hair also lent warmth and shade. Some people have more than an ample growth while others have them only in tufts or patches.

At this time, when most of us are now living indoors, a surfeit growth of hair in parts of the body such as the face, legs, armpits, and bikini line are seen as a sign of poor personal hygiene. Women are affected all the more with this taboo, as excess hair may easily become a reflection of how well they take care of themselves.

Mainly because of society’s view and fixation about unwanted hair found in ladies, plenty of hair removal methods are available for those plagued with an excess of hair in the parts of the body enumerated earlier.

Shaving is seen as the most handy hair removal method. However, one disadvantage of using a razor to remove hair is that the process is only short term by nature, considering that shaving only cuts off the embarrassing hair at the skin surface.

Tweezing is another hair removal method considered better at keeping hair regrowth to a minimum. However, it is thought to be very time-consuming because one needs to pluck out the hair strand one by one. One more thing: Anecdotal evidence identifies plucking as one of the main causes of infected sebum glands.

Waxing is a different hair removal method. It involves softening up up waxing strips and placing them on the leg. After a few moments, the strips are pulled out.

A painless and more permanent process of hair removal uses laser technology. Laser hair removal targets melanin within the hair gland. A high concentration of laser beam is aimed at the hair follicles; the beam vaporizes the melanin, thus inhibiting hair growth.

Make sure that the attending skin doctor doing the laser procedure is certified to do the procedure. You need to do this for your own safety and protection.

A large number of individuals face the issue of unwanted hair and struggle to get results even after trying out several methods of hair removal. The kind of hair removal technique that is best for you depends on the area and density of hair growth as well as on your skin type and sensitivity.

The most common means of getting rid of unwanted hair is shaving. Although shaving is effective and inexpensive, the problem is that it is only short-term and you need to keep on shaving on a routine basis in order to ensure hair-free skin. For example, men shave their beards on a daily basis. People also use shaving to remove unwanted hair from areas like chest or legs.

Another method is waxing hair off the body. It is a messy process, which normally cannot conveniently be done in the house on your own. The benefit of waxing is that the removal of hair is done from its base and thus, it doesn’t reappear for around two to three weeks, giving you a longer duration of freedom from unwanted hair. But remember that waxing is a painful process of hair removal and should not be done on sensitive areas.

The third option is to apply a hair removal cream, which is simple to use and can be done on your own. These creams do not hurt, but they are not as effective as waxing and hair grows back faster. The skin can also react to the components of the cream resulting in appearance of ugly rashes.

Those individuals who have more hair on some areas of the body than others can opt for hair transplant, in which hair is taken out from the places of denser hair growth and planted in areas of sparse hair growth. Such a process is usually complicated and should be avoided as far as possible.

The last technique, also the costliest of all, is laser hair removal treatment. The major advantage of this technique is that its results last forever. But in order to avoid scarring or other accidents, it must only be done by trained professionals.

One of the things I’ve always hated about keeping my legs smooth, and my eyebrows trim, is painful and expensive waxing. Waxing isn’t for the faint hearted; in fact, it isn’t for anyone who dislikes the feeling of their skin being peeled off with a hot knife. Tweezers? No way. I tried that once, and will never do that again. And yes, I’m well aware of laser and electrolysis treatments, but who can afford that these days?

Personally, I’ve been waiting for a company to put out an easy to use cream that would just melt away unwanted hair. Well, I’m not waiting anymore…

‘Revitol Hair Removal Cream’ fits the bill exactly. I was a bit dubious about their claims at first, as it sounded too good to be true, but since they were offering free trial tubes then I decided that I had nothing to lose by giving it a try. And I’m so glad that I did! After using it my skin was silky smooth and hair free. Not just for a day or two either, as the effects are long lasting due to the hair being removed at the follicle.

It’s easy enough to use, you simply apply it on and wipe it off 15 minutes later. And, you can use it anywhere. I’ve used it on my legs, eyebrows, feet, upper lip, my tummy, underarms, back and even my shoulders. The results so far have been pain-free and just incredible.

As an additional bonus, after only a few days of use, my skin is absolutely glowing and healthy. All natural ingredients like green tea extract, aloe vera, and vitamins A and E all work together to protect your skin and keep it looking great.

And did I mention you can try it out for free? That’s right – free! So, you really have nothing to lose – either it works and you get great, smooth skin, or it doesn’t work as you hope it will do, and it costs you nothing.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment: How It Works

Before laser and IPL devices entered the market, electrolysis was the only form of permanent or long-term hair removal available. Electrolysis is still performed today, but it is painful and invasive to the skin, allowing for a chance of infection. Unfortunately, this painstaking process is performed one hair follicle at a time. During the electrolysis procedure, a fine needle is inserted into the hair follicle, delivering a galvanic current to destruct the follicle stem cells. Regular maintenance procedures are often required for years after the initial treatment.

In contrast, with laser and pulsed light technology, hundreds of hair follicles are treated at a time and vary upon the spot size (the size of the tip of the device delivering energy). These hair removal procedures are non-invasive and take only minutes to perform instead of the many hours with electrolysis.

Melanin

Laser hair removal is based on selective photothermolysis (using light and heat for destruction of a hair follicle) with melanin being the target chromophore (chemical grouping that produces color). The most important consideration prior to hair removal procedures is the patient’s hair color and skin type. The difference between the absorption of laser or light energy by melanin in the hair follicle and melanin in the epidermis determines the amount of energy that can be safely used without harming the skin.

Light skinned patients with dark hair are considered to be the ideal patients for laser hair removal On the other hand, a patient with very dark skin and gray or white hair, would have little if any response. Since melanin in the hair shaft and follicle are the target source for laser and IPL hair removal procedures, it is important for patients during their initial consultation not to tweeze, wax or use any depilatory device prior to hair removal. The patient can, however, shave the area to be treated (which preserves the chromophore in the follicle), or can use hair removal creams. Hair which is protruding from the skin can singe during a laser or light treatment which causes an unpleasant smell and possible flares.

Treatment Day

Most devices technically operate the same way when performing a hair removal procedure. The parameters on the device (joules, milliseconds, pulse, etc.) should be set according to the skin analysis and history performed on the patient. It is important to for patients not to wear dark clothing near the area to be treated as the pigment in the clothing could potentially be absorbed by the laser or light and can result in a burn. The patient should be instructed to refrain from using any body washes, lotions, cosmetics, or any skin medications the day of treatment. Some patients may prefer to have a topical anesthetic applied prior to the procedure. If any residue of the anesthetic remains, it should be wiped clean from the skin. A spot test, or patch test, should be performed on the intended treatment area. Several treatments are required at monthly intervals for an optimal outcome and a yearly maintenance procedure is recommended.
